Clássico Sunset Urca: drinks and golden hour over Rio

Clássico Sunset Urca captures the laid-back charm of Rio, offering an unbeatable setting for sunset views and nice music. No wonder it’s a favorite for locals and travelers alike. Perched on top of Sugarloaf Mountain, this bar offers unbelievable views that stretch across Red Beach, Copacabana, and Ipanema on one side, while Christ the Redeemer watches over from the other.

I recommend arriving around 4 p.m. is perfect, giving you time to grab a seat and settle in before the sunset crowd rolls in. The vibe is relaxed, with a DJ spinning tracks that sync beautifully with the fading daylight. There’s a wide variety of cocktails to sip and I highly recommend the tangerine one – it’s refreshing, delicious, and at a price that feels honest for such a prime spot. Pair it with some classic Brazilian snacks like the dadinhos de tapioca with cheese, and you’ve got a perfect combo to enjoy the golden hour magic.

Pro tip: Plan your Sugarloaf visit in the afternoon and wrap it up with drinks at Clássico Sunset Urca. It was one of the best experiences we had in Rio!

Terra Brasilis: best lunch spot in Rio for views

Terra Brasilis blends a relaxed vibe with some of the most breathtaking views Rio has to offer. Located right by Praia Vermelha, this restaurant gives you front-row seats to Sugarloaf Mountain, creating a setting that’s as photogenic as it is relaxing. It’s like a dreamy blend of Greece and Rio as you can see from the pictures below. How not to fall in love with this gem?

The food was surprisingly good, with classics dishes from my home state Bahia like moqueca and bobó de camarão being the most popular menu picks. The gastronomic experience at Terra Brasilis is elevated by a well-curated playlist that perfectly captures the essence of Brazil, making it the ideal setting to enjoy the scenery. However, don’t be fooled by the laid-back vibe—this spot is in high demand, so it’s essential to book ahead. Reservations open 15 days in advance, and without one, you’re likely to end up waiting in line and missing out on the best tables.

Pro tip: Trust me, planning ahead is well worth it to fully enjoy this hidden gem. Make sure to add a request for a table with great view when you make the reservation and thank me later!

Parque Lage: brunch at the foot of Christ the Redeemer

I can’t write about Rio without highlighting Parque Lage, a magical spot that feels like stepping back in time. Nestled within the courtyard of a grand colonial mansion, Plage café offers a truly unique atmosphere, with towering palms and the iconic Christ the Redeemer watching from above. Whether you’re here for a morning coffee or a relaxed brunch, it’s a place that invites you to linger and take in the enchanting surroundings. The colonial vibes are unmatched, giving you a glimpse into Brazil’s rich history while being immersed in nature’s beauty.

Brunch at Parque Lage is always a good idea, with a menu full of enticing options like omelets, salads, burgers, and classic egg dishes. It’s also a great spot to visit after exploring Christ the Redeemer, as the two landmarks are conveniently close to each other. The views are fantastic, and the ambiance makes you feel like you’ve been transported to another era. It’s the perfect way to slow down and enjoy Rio’s timeless charm.

Pro tip: Make sure to stroll around the vast gardens of Parque Lage, where you’ll get a taste of Brazilian’s lush vegetation and enjoy more angles of the Christ Redeemer!

Xian Lounge Restaurant & Club: extra suggestion

As we’re talking about restaurants with best views in Rio, I couldn’t fail to mention Xian Lounge Restaurant & Club. A must-visit for those seeking a dining experience paired with one of Rio de Janeiro’s most breathtaking views. Perched high above the city, Xian offers a sweeping panoramic of Guanabara Bay, with the city skyline and surrounding mountains creating an unforgettable backdrop. The Asian fusion menu is complemented by an elegant atmosphere that effortlessly transitions into a vibrant nightlife scene as the evening progresses.
