Cherry blossom in Stockholm

1) Kungsträdgården

Kungsträdgården is the most popular place for cherry blossom in Stockholm. Nestled between the bustling harbor and the city’s main commercial districts, this square boasts a prime location and an irresistible atmosphere. While a delightful spot to visit year-round, Kungsträdgården truly comes alive during cherry blossom season, transforming into the most magical and romantic square in town. Pathways of delicate Sakuras frame the central fountain, creating a setting straight out of a fairy tale. A must-visit destination for anyone fortunate enough to be in Stockholm during the cherry blossom bloom!

The cherry trees gracing Kungsträdgården were gifted from Japan to the King of Sweden in 1998, symbolizing the enduring bond between the two nations. Since then, Stockholm has embraced this cultural exchange wholeheartedly, hosting an annual Cherry Blossom festival at the park. This lively event is a celebration of Japanese culture and traditions, offering vibrant stage performances and interactive activities against the backdrop of blooming cherry blossoms. It’s a delightful event to attend during spring!

2) Luma Park

Although not as popular as Kungsträdgården, Luma Park is an absolute must-visit spot for cherry blossom in Stockholm. This hidden gem is actually our favorite Sakura spot in town, alongside Lugnets Allé, a place we absolutely adore and will introduce to you shortly. When the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, Luma square and surrounding park burst into a cherry blossom oasis comprised of dozens of cherry trees in shades of delicate pinks and whites. It’s a super romantic setting for families and lovers!

Insider tip: Luma Park is the heart of Hammarby Sjöstad, a charming residential neighborhood in Stockholm. This is an area traditional travel guides won’t mention, but it’s actually our favorite in town. So, we recommend combining a visit to Luma Park with a pleasant stroll through Hammarby Sjöstad, including the water promenade and inner streets adorned by a lovely creek.

If you’re feeling adventurous, include Nacka Reservatet to your itinerary. It’s a beautiful forest in the middle of Stockholm, where you’ll get a feeling for Sweden’s stunning nature. And if you’re a beer lover, make sure to visit Nya Carnegiebryggeriet, a trendy and beloved craft beer spot in Sjöstan!

3) Lugnets Allé

Lugnets Allé is translated to English as “Calmness Alley,” a title that perfectly describes the atmosphere of this idyllic street. Arguably one of Stockholm’s best-kept secrets, Lugnets Allé exudes a serene atmosphere that’s impossible to resist. This is one of our favorite areas in town, and a place we almost kept out of this guide, in the fear of compromising its pristine nature.

Apart from the peaceful atmosphere, what truly sets this street apart is its breathtaking display of cherry blossoms. Dozens of delicate trees line the creek’s banks, casting a spellbinding hue of pink and white over the entire street extension. It’s a place you must visit during cherry blossom season, combined with Luma Park and a walk through Hammarby Sjöstad. Thank us later for the tip!

4) Bysistorget, Södermalm

Nestled within the vibrant Södermalm, Stockholm’s trendiest neighborhood, lies Bysistorget – a true hidden gem waiting to be discovered amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. This unassuming square burst into life and color during cherry blossom season and exudes the most charming atmosphere. We honestly have no idea how, but this fantastic cherry blossom spot flew under our radar for years. But from the moment we set foot in this charming square, adorned with chic cafes and inviting bars, we knew we had stumbled upon something special.

We visited the square on Saturday afternoon, in the peak of cherry blossom bloom and were simply delighted with its vibrant energy.
